Genesis Research Consultancy Limited (GRCL) was established in February 2015 with a simple but ambitious objective: to provide professional research support and help researchers communicate their academic work more effectively. From the beginning of our history, GRCL was built around the understanding that conducting research is only one part of the scholarly journey. Researchers also need support in developing research proposals, preparing academic manuscripts, improving scholarly communication, navigating publication processes, and presenting their findings to appropriate academic audiences.
The organization began its journey with a relatively small operational structure and a strong emphasis on direct, personalized communication with clients. Rather than relying on complex systems, GRCL initially built its reputation through close interaction, individual attention, responsiveness, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work. What began as a relatively focused research consultancy gradually evolved into a multidisciplinary organization with interests extending across research methodology, academic writing and editing, data analysis, scientific communication, scholarly publishing, journal consultancy, research capacity building, and related professional services.
2019–2022 — A Period of Academic Development
A significant transition in GRCL’s history began in February 2019, when Dr. Abdulla-Al-Asif commenced his PhD studies in Marine Ecology and Biodiversity at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This period represented an important stage of academic and professional development. While GRCL’s organizational foundation remained in place, its day-to-day operations were intentionally scaled back as Dr. Abdulla-Al-Asif devoted substantial time to doctoral research, academic responsibilities, and professional development.
Rather than representing an end to GRCL’s journey, this period became a phase of institutional continuity and personal academic advancement. During these years, Dr. Abdulla-Al-Asif gained advanced research experience in marine ecology and biodiversity and developed broader expertise in scientific research, data analysis, academic writing, scholarly communication, and research publication. These experiences subsequently contributed to the evolution of GRCL’s professional capabilities. The period also reinforced an important principle that continues to influence GRCL: high-quality research consultancy should be grounded in genuine research experience and a strong understanding of the academic environment.
2022 — A New Chapter
In July 2022, Dr. Abdulla-Al-Asif returned to GRCL following his period of doctoral study and assumed the role of Executive Director. His return marked a significant new chapter in the organization’s development. With renewed leadership and a broader academic and research background, GRCL began strengthening its organizational structure, expanding its professional services, refining its internal processes, and developing a more systematic approach to serving researchers and research-oriented organizations.
The organization began moving from its earlier personalized consultancy model toward a more comprehensive and professionally structured research-support platform while retaining the close client engagement that had characterized its early years.
Expanding the Scope of GRCL
Following the renewed phase of development, GRCL expanded its service portfolio to address a wider range of needs across the research and scholarly communication lifecycle. Its activities increasingly encompassed research consultancy, thesis and proposal support, academic and scientific manuscript editing, publication support, literature and review writing, statistical analysis, research data analysis, GIS and mapping, research design, journal consultancy, scholarly publishing support, publication ethics, and research capacity development.
The organization also strengthened its ability to work across multiple academic disciplines, bringing together researchers, editors, subject specialists, data analysts, publishing professionals, and consultants. This multidisciplinary approach enabled GRCL to support not only individual researchers but also journals, publishers, academic institutions, organizations, NGOs, and other knowledge-driven clients.

As the research and publishing landscape continued to change, GRCL recognized that researchers increasingly needed support extending beyond traditional academic writing and research consultancy. The rapid growth of digital scholarly publishing, open-access models, research databases, persistent identifiers, journal indexing, publication-ethics requirements, online journal management systems, and international publishing standards created new challenges for both researchers and journal publishers. GRCL consequently expanded its focus toward scholarly communication and publishing consultancy.
The organization began supporting journals and publishing initiatives in areas such as journal development, editorial policies, publication ethics, publishing workflows, digital journal platforms, DOI infrastructure, indexing readiness, journal visibility, and international publishing practices. This evolution represented a natural extension of GRCL’s original mission: helping knowledge move from research to communication, publication, and wider dissemination.
Building a Culture of Ethical Research and Publishing
As GRCL expanded, ethical and responsible research communication became increasingly central to its work. The organization recognized that the growth of scholarly publishing also brought significant challenges, including predatory publishing, misleading indexing claims, plagiarism, inappropriate authorship practices, conflicts of interest, inadequate editorial processes, and other threats to the integrity of the scholarly record. GRCL therefore strengthened its commitment to publication ethics, transparency, research integrity, and responsible scholarly communication.
Its approach emphasizes that publication should not be pursued at the expense of research quality or ethical standards. GRCL seeks to help researchers and publishing organizations understand established principles and make informed decisions throughout the research and publication process. The organization’s engagement with recognized publishing-ethics communities, including COPE, reflects this continuing commitment.

Recognizing that researchers need education as much as professional assistance, GRCL developed GRCLInsights, an author and research education platform designed to provide accessible information on research, academic writing, scholarly publishing, publication ethics, and related topics.
